COLUMBIA AMERICA'S FIRST BICYCLE

Columbia Manufacturing Inc. is a company located in Westfield, Massachusetts that manufactures chairs, desks, and other products. In the education industry, it is best known for making desk chairs, which are used across the United States. Founded in 1877, it was once owned by Pope Manufacturing Company of Hartford, CT. Pope Manufacturing manufactured bicycles for the company in Hartford, CT. After Pope filed for bankruptcy in 1915, Columbia continued on to manufacture bicycles in Westfield MA.

The most common Columbia muscle bicycle was named the “PLAYBIKE”
and that name is implied for most of the 20” wheeled banana bikes
they made.  In 1965 they made the first bike of this style, and it was
was called the PLAYBOY. This led to a lawsuit
by the men's magazine of the same name, and the name was changed from PLAYBOY to
PLAYBIKE in 1966. As the years progressed, more and more aggressive
styling brought out crazier designs. This brought about lines like Vista,
THE MACH series Bicycles, MTD SS and the continued LONGBOY Bicycles.

1970 LONGBOY 5 Spd. When I saw this Bicycle I had to have it. Restored by Ant Bucky of the Bronx, NY. This Bicycle has everything I wanted as a Kid. Console shift 5spd. Wheelie Bar, Base Ball Bat, Wrapped Extra Wide Ape Hanger Bars, Wacky Wheels Mag Wheel Disc's with Lights, Extra wide Slick, and VANS Eqquiped Brake Shoes for Braking. One of my Favorite Bikes.	1973 SCAMP COASTER   Another great Marketplace find. 1973 Columbia Scamp. Finished in Lemon Twist Yellow. Features a 3 inch Drag Slick, Wheelie Bar RWL front tire and a set of mini Wrapped Handle Bars. Look for this Scamp at Lebanon Valley Dragway during the SuperCar Racing Season. As purchased in Eastern, CT of MarketPlace Spring of 2023
