Plymouth wanted only one thing when they
made this car, Richard Petty. This was the only thing that
would make him come back. Mr. Petty was not too happy with Chrysler for
not letting
him race the slick new Dodge, so he went to the blue oval and that left
Plymouth without
a big-time driver. Well, in mid 1969, they showed Mr. Petty what they
had in mind
if he came back, and the rest is history.
The 1970 Plymouth Super Bird is the wildest car to ever come out of Detroit.
Racing bred and
wind tunnel designed, the car was a winner on the design table. Chrysler
exec's were not to happy with
the looks of the Daytona, so when they started working on the Super Bird,
they wanted a slick car that
was refined and had the look of a winner.
My Super Bird is the 252nd bird built of 408 total 440+6BBL Auto SuperBirds.
It is equipped with a
440 C.I. Super Commando V-8 and 6 BBL Carburation. A A727 Torque Flight
Automatic Transmission
tied to a Trak Pak 3.55 / 8.75 rear helps this Bird get up and go. This
Bird was painted in 1982 and
preserved to factory original specs.
This Super Bird is very special as it has never been restored and shows
only 26000 Miles. Purchased New in 1970 at
D'Lux Motors in Columbiana Ohio. All options on this Super Bird
are as delivered. In 1972
this Super Bird suffered an accident that commissioned Frederick's
Chrysler
Plymouth in Salem Ohio to open the parts book and replace components in
the front.
Unique parts were used from the 1971 Chrysler parts catalog to repair
the damage.
The most obvious is the front seal that was added in late 1970 to the
catalog.
