WESTWARD HO!
OUR TRIP TO WYOMING

We walked thru the park with the audio guides we had rented and learned much about this massive undertaking called Mount Rushmore. It was well worth the time spent traveling to visit this great monument to our country. We walked back to the truck in silence, reflecting on all it stood for, then put the truck in gear and followed the winding road back down and out onto the main road. Where we proceeded to run out of fuel.

Ralph occasionally does this, much to my dismay. He finds it funny. Me, not so much. I think it’s a guy thing, like, how fast can I drive, only it’s how far can I go before I run out of gas? Guys like to push the boundaries, test the limits, go a few more miles, get that adrenaline pumping…and run out of fuel. Thankfully (?), Ralph had done the running out of fuel thing enough times that he started to keep a 5 gallon container of fuel in the back of the truck, for just such an occasion. So, we were only delayed a few minutes while Ralph coasted to the side of the road, poured the fuel into the tank and primed the fuel pump. Then we were off, until the first gas station we passed, where we topped off the tank and refilled the 5 gallon jug. I wasn’t going to let him run out of fuel again on this trip.
